To Be Alone

Estos dias he estado pensando mucho acerca de la soledad después de haber leído el Laberinto de la Soledad de Octavio Paz en la universidad. Me sentí muy relacionado con este tema ya que yo suelo temerle a la soledad desde niño, siempre he buscado una manera para no estar solo ya sea siguiendo la fiesta o invadiendo la casa de mis amigos, incluso cuando me mude a la ciudad busque una casa con roomies por lo mismo. Pareciera que soy un molestoso por hacer estas cosas pero es mi mecanismo de defensa para evitar mi soledad. No recuerdo porque tengo esta idea relacionada como negativo, algo que debo evitar, pero tenemos ejemplos como Buda que han encontrado la felicidad gracias a la catarsis que conlleva dicho estado. Un debate interno se desato al final de mi lectura donde termine reflexionando ¿a que le trato de huir?

These days I have been thinking about loneliness after I have read Labyrinth of Solitude by Octavio Paz in college. I felt related to this essay because I am afraid to be alone since I was a kid, always searching company like going to parties (that sometimes I didn't want to go) and invading my friend's house, even when I was moving out from my hometown to the city I search for a house with roommates because I didn't want to be alone. I know, I look like an annoying guy but don't get me wrong I do all this stuff unconsciously because I don't remember why I think that loneliness is wrong and something that I need to avoid. And that's wrong because we have examples like Buda that found happiness with loneliness. At the end I have this questions inside, what are you so scared of solitude? I don't have a clear answer yet.
